8 March International Women's Day
8 March marks International Women's Day, a key date to reflect on progress and challenges in the fight for gender equality. This year's official theme is 'Accelerate Action', an urgent call to step up efforts to address the inequalities that persist in many societies despite decades of work in this area.
Gender inequality remains a deeply entrenched problem, particularly in areas such as economic participation, political representation and the fight against gender-based violence. While progress has been made in some areas, it has been slow and women continue to face significant obstacles. This year's theme calls for moving beyond ineffective practices and implementing meaningful and bold changes to make a real impact on gender equality.
"Accelerating action" means not only scaling up efforts, but also tackling the systemic barriers that perpetuate inequality. These barriers include unequal pay, limited access to education and the under-representation of women in decision-making positions. This slogan underlines the need for institutional and policy reforms and the urgency of tackling deep-rooted prejudices and outdated systems that continue to exclude women from equal opportunities.
In this context, we at MediTerra are proud to highlight that we work every day to ensure that our female employees have equal opportunities and parity in the workplace. 60% of our workforce is female (in line with the Equality Directive) and all our employees are trained in prevention and awareness of violence and harassment in the workplace, reflecting our commitment to inclusion, respect and safety for all people in the workplace. We firmly believe that the future must be marked by a decisive change in labour and social structures, with a focus on equality and respect for the rights of all people, regardless of gender.
This 8 March, the call is clear: it is time to accelerate action. It is time to move boldly towards a fairer society where women and men have equal opportunities to contribute to collective progress.
